The Guardians of the
stables
Mizaru, Kikazaru, Iwazaru...
From the Nikko Toshogu, built in 1636
The mausoleum of the Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu
who put an end to the Sengoku.
Literally translated it means
see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing.
saru (or zaru) is a Japanese word for monkey,
hence the 3 wise monkeys are a play on
the words!!!
